Those of us who are in the business world know how important logos are without even thinking about it. Without seeing a name, hearing an advertisement, or reading information about a company or product we can look at the logo and get an idea of what the service is all about. In fact, some logos are so well known that even our children recognize them.
Recently I was driving down the road with my five year old and she was complaining that she was hungry. We were going down the highway and I really didn’t want to pull off to get something to eat so I told her there was just not something around for us to stop and get. I kept telling her that we would be home shortly and we would get something there. She was quiet for a few moments and was just looking out the window. I was assuming that she had resigned herself to the fact that we would not be stopping off anywhere when out of the backseat I hear, “But Momma, I just read that sign for exit 75A and it said that there is a Burger King as well as a McDonald’s there, so there is something close by!”
Sure enough, on the sign were the logos for both McDonald’s and Burger King! How could I argue with her when she could clearly discern that there was food nearby by simply looking at the sign and picking out the logo’s that she knows? It just goes to show that the power of logos is not lost on the public at large today, in fact the ability to recognize businesses and services through their logo’s starts at a startlingly young age!
